The Fried Hula

Hello World,
So I just submitted this illustrated recipe to They Draw & Cook. I hope it gets put up, it's my own special recipe I made up for BBQs. Being a vegetarian I get sick of eating salads when everyone else eats sausages and burgers around me. The Fried Hula has become a hit with vegetarians and meat eaters!

Curvy

More exciting news! I submitted some works into Curvy and Bat Dog has been successful and will be printed in Curvy 2012! I am so excited I absolutely love Curvy and to have my illustration published in their amazing book is such an honour! Apparently 1108 female artists submitted their work from 40 countries around the world. I am not sure how many were selected but I was one of them! Some of my favourite female illustrators have been in this book so I am just so excited to be a part of it. If you don't know what Curvy is check out http://curvy-world.com/

Migration Myths

So I was asked to be part of Spoonful Zine issue 6 and the brief was to create an illustration of a hummingbird. Not knowing all that much about humming birds I did a little research and found a really funny myth about their migration patterns. For some reason people had trouble believing these tiny birds could migrate unassisted and therefore came up with the theory that they hitchhiked a ride on the backs of geese.
This is completely untrue but the idea made me laugh so I tried to create a kind of retro travel poster for hummingbirds. Hope you like it!! You can check out the zine at just by clicking on the neat little round button below :)

woodland creatures are so hot right now.

Hello again!

Recently I went to a craft market in Sydney and I noticed that almost every stall was selling items that had either owls, foxes, rabbits or deers/ stags on them. It made me laugh, but with the intensions of selling my work at markets soon I thought I should get in on the woodland creature action as they were selling like hot cakes! So I am selling out in my own quirky way I guess. Ah well...

Gangs of Hyde Park

Hello World,

So a few years back while I was in London I went for a walk in Hyde Park. For some strange reason a gang of squirrels and pigeons chased me out of the park. Ever since then I have wanted to illustrate this image and I have finally given myself to do this. I hope you enjoy it!

wedding invites

Hello World,
So after a holiday in fiji and coming down with a horrid case of swine flu, I am up and drawing again! Currently I am working on another album cover but i also just finished making up some wedding invited today that I am very happy with. I cant wait to see them printed, here is just a little sample of the front of the invite and the RSVP card. Its for a laid back backyard wedding where they will be serving pizza and gelato for the guests meal. Hope you like it!

threadless entry

So the last illustration I did for the spoilt series titled batdog got a lot of good attention on facebook with friends encouraging me to enter it into becoming a tee on www.threadless.com So I did! You can see my design when you go to this link: http://www.threadless.com/submission/357913/batdog/from,flick.gardner

Please vote for me, and vote high! Give me some 5's! The $2000 spending could go so far in helping me self promote my work. And it would be so cool to have my illustration on a shirt

hello world,
So I have a new addition to the spoilt series... Batdog! A friend of mine recently brought a bulldog puppy and i am obsessed with how adorable her droopy face is. In my search for funny ways people spoil their pets I have found so many hilarious pictures of pets dressed up as movie characters, so thats where the batman influence comes from. I hope you all like it. There are more to come from this series. I have a few more ideas bubbling in my head :)

monster pencil

A few weeks back i had a bad case of too many thoughts and too little sleep. I wrote a story about a monster at around 3am and couldn't stop thinking about how I would illustrate it. This image was the first to come to me and I am pretty happy with the first sketch. I am in no way a writer, i just wanted to jot down some words to give my illustrations some background. I can see how i would like this to work in colour and I hope I can recreate whats in my head because it's such a fun image. Hopefully this will be a piece to ad to the new portfolio I hope to have by the end of the year

the giant wombat

I drew a rough sketch of this image 3/4 years ago and today I finally committed myself to redraw it in pastel. It was great to play with pastels again, even though I made my desk and hands all dirty

even more spoilt!

Ok this picture above was created by a very clever year 2 student. My partner is a primary school teacher and one of his students loves to draw. He told her that he has a friend that also loves to draw. She asked if she could see some of my work, so I gave her a copy of the last spoilt illustration I did and this is what she sent back to me. Isn't it amazing! She didn't trace a thing and added cool little bits like a crown and hair clips. So cute, I love kids art.

So this is another spoilt pet to ad to the series I have been working on. This has been a fun little self driven project, I'm really enjoying google searching crazy things people do for their pets. Anyway there is more to come! stay tuned :)
